My next historical romance is going to be a little different.
The Roads That Led to You will be told entirely from the male perspective.
At its centre is Frank Thompson, a former RFC captain and the younger son in a family that has always looked to his older brother first.
Frank survived the war. Coming home is another matter.
His older brother has a profession, a wife and a family. Frank has returned to a world that expects him simply to carry on, while he is still trying to work out what his life is supposed to look like now that the uniform has gone.
Then Elizabeth Heath arrives in the village.
She has come to stay with her formidable Aunt Rose and has no intention of becoming anyone’s project. She has known loss of her own, built an independent life, and is considerably more capable than Frank first expects.
The romance will still be everything I love writing — quiet moments, friendship becoming something more, rural life, family, and a very gradual slow burn.
But this time readers will experience all of it through him.
What he notices about her.
What he gets completely wrong.
The moment he realises she has become important to him.
And all the things he cannot quite bring himself to say.
I’m looking forward to seeing what changes when the person falling in love — and the person whose thoughts we get to hear — is Frank.
More soon.
